PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is a non-ionic solubilizer and emulsifier obtained by reacting varying amounts of ethylene oxide with castor oil or hydrogenated castor oil.

PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil appears as a white to pale yellow viscous liquid or soft thin paste, a complex mixture composed of hydrophobic and hydrophilic parts, almost colorless and odorless. They are used as solubilizers for fat-soluble vitamins, perfumes, essential oils, and other hydrophobic drugs. They have the ability to dissolve or emulsify oil-soluble components and convert them into transparent solutions or stable emulsions, respectively. It improves the solubility of poorly soluble drugs.

          II. Properties This product is a white to yellow thin paste at room temperature, soluble in water, ethanol, propylene glycol, acetate, chloroform, etc., forming clear solutions. It can also mix with other Cremophor series products, fatty acids, and fatty alcohols to form clear solutions.

          III. Applications Due to containing both hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups, its HLB value ranges between 14 and 16, making it effective in solubilizing active ingredients that are difficult to dissolve in water. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is primarily used for solubilizing vitamins. It also works well for solubilizing certain drugs and aromatic oils for oral and topical applications. Additionally, this product is particularly suitable as an emulsifier, capable of emulsifying many hydrophobic substances such as fatty acids, fatty alcohols, and drugs. When used as a solubilizer, it must be thoroughly mixed with the active ingredient to be solubilized, and then water should be slowly added to the mixture while stirring to prevent opalescence.

Adding small amounts of polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, and glycerol can enhance the solubilizing effect and reduce the amount of this product needed. IV.
